The origin of life?
Perhaps the most mysterious and enigmatic of meteorites are the carbonaceous chondrites, which arrive on Earth carrying amino acids, volatile organic compounds and, in some cases, water embedded in their matrix.
Are these the origin of life, having brought the building blocks of proteins to Earth early in the history of the planet?
Ultimately though, carbonaceous chondrites are quite beautiful meteorites. CR2 and CR3, particularly with their armoured chondrules are attractive to the naked eye but a close-up view through a hand lens reveals a myriad of chondrule types.
